We usually find cats that need help, but Guinness found us!  He approached some 13th St. volunteers while they were at a colony site and he was just too friendly to ignore.  Two days later he was picked up, and now resides at our sanctuary.  Guinness is approx. 4-6 years old, male, FIV+, and almost 16 lbs.!  He absolutely loves being pet, adores having his ears scratched, and is an absolute purr machine!  He has already become a favorite of our volunteers and is adapting to being indoors very quickly. Guinness needs to be the alpha cat but gets along just fine with passive cats.  He needs a place to stretch his legs, so two-bedroom or more homes/apartments would be best.  He is a true “rags to riches” story.  It’s a lovely day for a Guinness!

FIV-positive means that your cat has been infected by the virus, but if it is not showing signs it may be years, if ever before the cat develops the clinical signs referred to as Feline AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome of cats). Just being diagnosed with the FIV virus does not mean your cat has feline AIDS

The primary mode of transmission for FIV is through bite wounds. Casual, non-aggressive contact does not appear to be an efficient route of spreading the virus. As a result, cats in households with stable social structures where housemates do not fight are at little risk of acquiring FIV infections.

13thstcats.org is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, No-Kill Rescue Group based in San Jose.

We try our best to match our cats to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular cat
